Brian Weeden, Sunday, 5-14-06 (35.44MB; download) -- Capt. Brian Weeden, USAF, was the guest for this special Space Show Mother's Day program. Capt. Weeden joined us from deep inside Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, CO where he spends his time tracking space debris in the Space Control Center. During this interview, Capt. Weeden talked to us about Cheyenne Mountain, about being on ICBM alert during 911 at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, and the nuts and bolts about space debris in all orbits up to and including GEO. We talked orbital mechanics and its importance, we talked about the military in space and the possibility of weapons in space, and much more. Capt. Weeden suggested that people interested in learning about orbital debris and items in the catalog being tracked that they log onto www.space-track.org and you can access the catalog that his department puts out. You have to create a password but the site access is free. Also, if you have a problem identifying items in the catalog, feel free to send him an email at brian.weeden@gmail.com. You will not want to miss this show and this realistic discussion on many very important and interesting topics. Selected by: David Livingston [ stations ], Mon, 15 May 2006 04:18:08 UTC

Rex Ridenoure, Friday, 5-12-06 (40.36MB; download) -- Rex Ridenoure, CEO of Ecliptic Enterprises Corporation of Pasadena, CA, joined The Space Show for this program. As Rex pointed out, Ecliptic is a very successful alt.space company, thus significantly broadening our usual application of the term alt.space. We began our discussion talking about their RocketCam product which took the incredible Space Ship One and Shuttle real time photos. This discussion expanded how Rex leads Ecliptic in the global space economy, how they are impacted by ITAR, cost plus contracting versus FFP. We talked about business secrecy, public and private companies. We discussed cubesats and student launches, sessions from the recent ISDC conference and much more. As a result of a listener question, Rex talked about his work with Blast Off, the project, and how it might someday be started again given the concept is still valid. I believe this is an important show, Rex Ridenoure and his company Ecliptic Enterprises are clearly a role model for alt.space. To learn more about the company and to contact Rex with your questions or comments, visit www.eclipticenterprises.com. You can also send him email through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com. Chip Proser, Tuesday, 5-9-06 (39.90MB; download) -- Chip Proser returned to The Space Show for this program. Fresh from ISDC and from updating his important documentary, "Gaia Selene: Saving The Earth by Colonizing the Moon," we discussed how space can be used as a major path for solutions to our energy problems and the climate change being experienced around Earth. Chip discusses these topics in detail and connects the dots for people so they can see yet another vitally important reason to become space-faring, reach for the Moon and take humanity off Earth. Chip answered many questions from listeners, some of which were skeptical to either Chip's core thesis or some of his references. In addition, both Chip and I referenced some of the programming at the recent ISDC as energy from space was an important topic discussed by many at the conference. Chip and I will soon be working together on a project to send his documentary to all members of congress and to leading corporate executives here in this country. More to follow on this developing idea. To find out more about his documentary and Chip Proser's work, visit www.spacecommand.org. You can contact Chip with your comments or questions using his email, chippro@aol.com. Selected by: David Livingston [ stations ], Wed, 10 May 2006 06:21:28 UTC

Dr. David Lvingston, Sunday, 5-7-06 (29.44MB; download) -- Dr. David Livingston, Host of The Space Show, has recorded this 47 minute message while at ISDC 2006 to let Space Show listeners know that the program is now part of a tax deductible California public benefit corporation, the One Giant Leap Foundation (OGLF). Now that OGLF has been approved as a 501C3 by the IRS, Livingston explains some of the new types of programming being planned for The Space Show. Also, starting May 1, 2006, contributions to The Space Show will be tax deductible. This program serves as an introduction to what is being planned for The Space Show but watch the website newsletter and listen to coming shows as those will be the two main sources for letting you know how The Space Show will be continuing to evolve and grow. As always, questions or comments are welcome at drspace@thespaceshow.com. Selected by: David Livingston [ stations ], Sun, 07 May 2006 12:32:56 UTC

Alan Wasser, Tuesdaay 5-2-06 (37.03MB; download) -- Alan Wasser, the Chairman of the Space Settlement Institute, was the guest for this Space Show program. Mr. Wasser began the interview by telling us about The Space Settlement Institute and then the Space Settlement Initiative. Listeners are urged to check this information out at the following sites: www.SpaceSettlement.Org and also www.space-settlement-institute.org. Make sure you read the article we discussed at length on the program, you will find it at http://www.space-settlement-institute.org/international_law.htm. In addition, you can contact Mr. Wasser through the website or at alan.wasser@space-settlement-institute.org. The Space Settlement Institute has as its purpose to promote human colonization and settlement of outer space, especially by means of the private sector, not the government. To develop a profit motive for space settlement, Mr. Wasser wants to make it possible for a lunar settlement to claim and own lunar real estate and then re-sell the lunar real estate to those back home on Earth. During the program, we discussed this plan and examined its feasibility given the Outer Space Treaty. You will want to hear this innovative and thought provoking discussion. Mr. Wasser says he could use some help. Listen to the program, investigate the Space Settlement websites and if you find you are in agreement with him, get on board. As always, you can also contact this guest through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com and I will forward all mail to Alan. Selected by: David Livingston [ stations ], Wed, 03 May 2006 07:29:47 UTC

Drs. Krone & Cox and Langdon Morris, Monday, 5-1-06 (49.78MB; download) -- Dr. Bob Krone, Dr. Ken Cox and Langdon Morris were the special guests for this program to discuss their newly published book, "Beyond Earth: The Future of Humans In Space." Each guest provided listeners with information on not only their chapters in the book but the chapters of authors as well, plus we talked about the importance of space, making sure people know about space, its meaning and purpose, space commerce and much much more. The book has 36 chapters and over 40 contributing authors. Many interesting topics were discussed, several interesting email questions came in from listeners and we finally found out why Space Show listeners do not like to use the toll free line, all thanks to Nelson!
You can reach any of the editors/authors of this book by sending your message or comments to me at drspace@thespaceshow.com and I will forward the email your instructions. Selected by: David Livingston [ stations ], Tue, 02 May 2006 06:40:31 UTC

Professor Freeman Dyson, Sunday, 4-30-06 (38.81MB; download) -- Professor Freeman Dyson was the very special guest for this Space Show program. Professor Dyson offered his perspective on a wide ranging list of topics including alt.space investment, the private sector and space access, cosmic radiation, Mars, the VSE, the ISS, shuttle, and humans versus robotic/scientific space missions. We also talked about nuclear power for space and his famous Project Orion. He provided us with his thoughts on HE3, fusion, and why space is not a great draw across America and elsewhere. He would like to see very fast vehicles getting us to the Moon, a NEO or someplace quickly to excite the public. He was not optimistic about the VSE but he is optimistic about the private sector getting us to space in the not too distant future. If you want to contact Dr. Dyson with additional questions or comments, you can send him e-mail at dyson@ias.edu. Selected by: David Livingston [ stations ], Mon, 01 May 2006 00:37:10 UTC

Ann Parson, Friday, 4-28-06 (39.67MB; download) -- Ann Parson returned for this Friday morning Space Show program to provide us with updates on stem cell research and issues. In addition to talking about stem cell work, many questions were related to space and its easy to see the overlap with stem cell progress and space medicine issues. Radiation for example, bone loss, and more. In addition, Ann spelled out very clearly the journey from stem cells in the test tube to a commercial medical product, a journet not unlike the journet science, techology, and engineering concepts and potential products must take prior to entering commercial service. For those wanting to know about various stem cell trials, Ann suggests that for instituting a search, use "stem cells" and whatever disorder at the URL, http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/. To send comments or additional questions to Ann Parson, do so through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com and I will be sure to forward the comments to her. Rob Wilson, Tuesday, 4-25-06 (42.62MB; download) -- Rob Wilson from Christ Church, New Zealand was the special guest for this unique and very different Space Show program. Rob began the interview by telling us about his blog, Out of the Cradle at www.outofthecradle.net. When we returned from the first break, Rob turned the tables on me and I became the guest on The Space Show and Rob interviewed me for the balance of the program. With some unexpected callers, lots of email questions to the guest (me), Rob took us through the founding of The Space Show, my assessment of the impact of the show on NASA and alt.space, and much more. I enjoyed very much being a guest on The Space Show. Now I know (sort of) what 486 people before me have had to go through and endure! Have fun with this very creative show which was the idea of Rob Wilson and his partner at Out of The Cradle, Mark Trulson. You can ask Rob questions or provide him with follow-up commentary by emailing him at rob@outofthecradle.net. Of course you can send your comments and questions to the other guest for tonight to drspace@thespaceshow.com! Selected by: David Livingston [ stations ], Wed, 26 Apr 2006 06:26:57 UTC
